VIRGINIE ANN: On Wednesday, many Montrealers of Haitian decent around the city's Villeray neighbourhood didn't want to speak publicly when approached for comment. Many said they feared that doing so would endanger their families in Haiti.
NACHO CARRETERO: Some 20 families make up Haiti's elite, almost all of them of European and Arab origin. They control the main companies and political parties. They spend the weekends in their second homes in Miami or New York, where their children usually study. An army of private security companies patrols this area, keeping reality at a distance.

The Editors: But we all have spiritual means at our disposal. When we run out of cream and are forced to drink our coffee black, we can offer up that simple inconvenience for Haitians who are dying for a drop of water. When we complain that we are buried in work, we can thank God that we have work — and offer up our labor for the sake of those who are literally buried in rubble. When we're grumpy because our old mattress didn't allow us a good night's rest, we can think of Haitians sleeping on the streets because their homes were destroyed.
